Invest wisely- in yourself!

July 20th, 2010

It’s only natural in this economy to look for ways to cut down on expenditures, to prioritize spending and make every dollar count. When you’re feeling good, sometimes it’s easy to overlook spending money on your own health. We certainly think of healthcare when we are sick or hurting, but what about preventative care? Massage can play an important role in maintaining a balanced state of wellness and aid in preventing illness.

You may have already experienced a therapeutic massage and know how it can relax your muscles and de-stress your mind, but what you may not know is that massage can have lasting health benefits.  Studies have shown that massage not only boosts the immune system, it improves blood circulation, promotes healthy sleep patterns, increases concentration, and when combined with consuming plenty of water, it will help to flush toxins and metabolic wastes from the body. Regular massage can reduce fatigue, anxiety, headaches and stress, linked to many chronic conditions and diseases.

If you have already experienced the benefits of traditional massage therapy in the past and are looking to try something new, hot stone massage is a warm and very relaxing experience.  For anyone who experiences aches and pains as the weather changes, this is a great way to relax into the seasonal shift. The hot stone sessions promote deep muscle and tissue relaxation, and can relieve muscular aches, back pain, and even arthritis, which many people experience more severely in the colder months.

When you consider the benefits of massage you see it is more than momentary enjoyment and relaxation, it is a long term investment in your own well-being. While prioritizing your expenses, take time to consider the long-term impact of stress, tension and pain on your health.  Spending a little on yourself now to maintain good health is money well spent!

Sow The Seeds For Good Health

July 20th, 2010

With the arrival of sunny weather comes the urge to get out and do some gardening. It’s time to prepare the soil and get your plants in so later you can sit back and watch your garden grow.  Sometimes nurturing a garden can remind us of something else in need of care, our bodies. Let this be the time of year when you plant the seeds for your own good health!

If you haven’t started your gardening yet, get yourself prepared by boosting your circulation and invigorating the muscles in your back, arms and shoulders with a massage. Perhaps you are a weekend warrior, attacking your gardening chores after being sedentary and then wondering why you can’t straighten up the next day?  You may be using muscles which haven’t gotten this kind of workout since this time last year.  Even just a half an hour of massage can be helpful for concentrating on those problem areas.

The blooming of trees and flowers is often accompanied by allergies. Massage on sinus points can  help relieve your sinus pressure. Already suffering with aching joints, back or knee pain? Massage can help relieve this pain as well as relax and revitalize you.  Massage relieves the tension in muscles and reduces inflammation. Low back pain?  Massage loosens the muscles and may help you to keep from compensating for the pain with other areas of your body.   This year, start by taking care of your most important resource first–yourself.

Hello world!

July 7th, 2010

Welcome to Oregon Therapeutic Massage by Jen Clear and our New Blog. . .
Massage isn’t just about feeling good, though that is certainly a benefit. Therapeutic massage is a holistic therapy that reduces the heart rate, lowers blood pressure, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, relaxes muscles, improves range of motion, and increases endorphins (the body’s natural painkillers). Professional massage therapy which is applied to the body’s soft tissue will stimulate circulation and promote relaxation. It has been used in many world cultures for more than 4,000 years. Massage allows you a quiet time to focus on yourself and become more connected to your body.

I will be posting helpful articles and resources to help you start feeling better, so keep checking back.

Thanks,
Jen
